Massachusetts man sentenced for 2016 Woonsocket domestic assault
Edward Delossantos (age 24), of Milford, MA was sentenced today to three years in prison by Superior Court Justice Maureen B. Keough. The sentencing comes after the defendant was found guilty in November 2019 of five felony charges related to a 2016 domestic assault in Woonsocket.
Delossantos will serve a total of three years at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) for multiple counts: 1) domestic assault with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), 6 years full with 3 years to serve, the balance suspended with probation; 2) driving without the consent of the owner, 5 years full with 3 years to serve, the balance suspended with probation; 3) domestic simple assault and battery, 1 year to serve; 4) simple assault and battery, 1 year to serve; and 5) malicious damage, 1 year to serve. The sentences are concurrent.
He has also been ordered to have no contact with the victims.
“The defendant’s violent conduct here, particularly in the context of domestic abuse, plainly warrants the prison sentence imposed by the Court,” said Attorney General Peter F. Neronha. “I am grateful for the victims’ courage in connection with this matter, and for the excellent work of the investigative team.”
Delossantos was found guilty of one count each of domestic assault with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), simple assault and battery, domestic simple assault and battery, malicious damage, and driving a vehicle without the consent of the owner.
During the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that in the early morning hours of October 6, 2016, Delossantos assaulted two female victims during an altercation outside of an apartment on Elm Street in the city of Woonsocket. The first victim was Delossantos’ girlfriend at the time. The second victim was the girlfriend’s sister.
During the early morning hours on October 6, 2019, Delossantos confronted the two victims outside of the first victim’s apartment as they were parking the second victim’s car. Delossantos initially pounded on the windows of the second victim’s car before retrieving a knife, which he then used to slash the front tire of her car.
During the incident, Delossantos punched the second victim and shoved her to the ground. Delossantos then punched the first victim, shoved her to the ground, and kicked her while she was on the ground.
The assault ended after a neighbor interfered and told Delossantos that he was calling the police.
Detective Thomas Gormley of the Woonsocket Police Department led the investigation into the case and Special Assistant Attorney Jonathan Burke prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General.
