General Assembly sessions, hearings canceled through March 27

 

STATE HOUSE – The House and Senate sessions and all committee hearings for the week of March 23-27 have been canceled in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision was announced today by Speaker of the House Nicholas A. Mattiello and President of the Senate Dominick J. Ruggerio in collaboration with the Department of Health. The Assembly had previously announced it would not conduct business the week of March 16-20.

President Trump is taking the podium following stalled talks on coronavirus relief. The White House announced the chief executive is holding a news conference at his Bedminster, New Jersey property. Trump tweeted he'll be discussing the coronavirus, economic numbers and what he called an "improving economy."        It looks like Russia is working to boost President Trump's reelection and "denigrate" Joe Biden. The director of the National Counterintelligence Center says the meddling doesn't stop there, with China and Iran wanting Trump to lose. He warns those are the three main foreign threats to the presidential election and says the countries will continue to try and sway voters.       Former White House Counsel Don McGahn may soon be forced to testify before the House of Representatives. A divided U.S. Appeals court in D.C ruled that McGahn's refusal to testify after being subpoenaed is grounds for the House to sue. Congress is able sue an administration when there's a standoff between the branches.       A New York judge is allowing proceedings in E. Jean Carroll's defamation lawsuit against President Trump to continue despite attempts to halt them. Carroll has accused Trump of rape, claiming he attacked her in a department store dressing room in Manhattan in the 1990s. Trump called her a liar, claiming he has never met her, after she published a memoir last summer.       Dentists are seeing an increase in cavities due to mask mouth. Symptoms of mask mouth include decaying teeth, receding gum lines and seriously sour breath. Dentists say breathing through the mouth with a mask on increases the dryness and buildup of bad bacteria.       Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is officially part owner of the XFL. A Delaware bankruptcy court approved the 15-million dollar sale on Friday. The Hollywood star teamed up with ex-wife Dany Garcia and a top sports management firm to buy the football league from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
