It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year Again

As Winter Wonderland Celebration Returns to

Woonsocket

 

WOONSOCKET, R.I.: Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that the City of Woonsocket’s popular Winter Wonderland Celebration is returning in 2021 as a free, family friendly and fun packed holiday spectacular. This magical event will be held on Saturday, December 4th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at River Island Art Park located on 95 Bernon Street.

The highlight of the celebration will be a 4:00 PM grand arrival of Santa Claus who will be transported in a bright red fire truck by the Woonsocket Fire Department with honorary "elf-for-a-day" Mayor Lisa Baldelli Hunt by his side. Santa will stay for pictures and is very anxious to meet with our children and hear what they want for Christmas. At 5:00 PM the celebration will continue with the official lighting of Woonsocket’s Christmas Tree, which will illuminate the park and serve as a beacon of hope and good cheer for the City.

Mayor Baldelli-Hunt exclaimed, "We are so excited to bring back our Winter Wonderland Celebration, especially after a difficult year where most of us did not venture out too much because of COVID-19 restrictions. This event captures the true spirit of the holidays, and we invite all of our residents, as well as their families and friends, to kick off the season with us at River Island Art Park." The Mayor enthusiastically added, "Santa’s visit to Woonsocket is always a high point for everyone. We encourage our residents to bring their children to meet Santa, participate in all of our fun activities, and make some great family holiday memories to be remembered for years to come."

The Winter Wonderland Celebration is jam-packed with holiday fun for the entire family and includes a petting zoo, free pony rides, wood carving demonstrations, a roving Snow Queen, holiday music, dazzling lights, a roaring "warm-up" fire, and great photo opportunities with a fully lit vintage pick-up truck, life sized snow globe and an interactive Snowman Ice Sculpture.

Bring your appetites because there will food and special treats for purchase from Plouffe’s Food Truck, The Trap Box and Sweet P’s Street Dogs. New Beginnings will also be offering for purchase fresh baked goods as well as hot cocoa and hot cider from the concession stand. Merry Christmas Woonsocket!

 

 
The third day of testimony in former President Trump's criminal hush money trial in New York is done. Jurors again heard testimony from former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker who has explained this week how he protected Trump from negative stories leading up to the 2016 presidential election. Trump faces felony is accused of covering up payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about an alleged affair.       The University of California is canceling its main commencement ceremony. This comes after on-campus protests have taken place following the school informing the valedictorian she would not be giving her speech. The student had been opposed by pro-Israel groups and the school cited unspecified security concerns when canceling her speech.       Wall Street is closing with stocks lower. This comes after the release of the first quarter GDP report caused stocks to slide early on in today's session. Gross domestic product rose by one-point-six-percent in the first quarter, against expectations of two-point-four-percent.        A member of Vice President Harris's security detail is being removed over a behavioral issue. The Secret Service says the agent began "displaying behavior their colleagues found distressing" earlier this week, but did not clarify what the behavior entailed. The Washington Examiner first reported the incident, claiming the agent got into a physical altercation with other agents.       The conviction of former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein for sex crimes is being overturned in New York. The state's Court of Appeals ruled Weinstein did not receive a fair trial. The court found the judge in his trial made an error allowing women to testify about alleged sexual assaults committed by Weinstein that were not part of the charges against him.        The NFL Draft is just hours away from kicking off in Detroit. The Chicago Bears have the first pick and are widely expected to select University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams. Rounds two and three will be held Friday and rounds four through seven will be held Saturday.
