We have lots of library happenings to share with you this month!
The library will be closed on Monday, October 9th in observance of Columbus Day.

 

We are excited to present to you the library's new Studio Rhode Creation Lab! Here is a sneak peek. 

 

 

 

 

We are actively collecting "My Woonsocket Life" stories both in the library in our new studio creation lab and also out in the community. Look for our Studio Rhode library booth at upcoming events such as Autumnfest on October 7th, 8th and 9th, and at Food Truck Friday/Movies in the Park night on October 13th at River Island Park.

Access is now available through the Harris Library for RI DMV practice tests for car, motorcycle and CDL driver licenses. All practice tests, including the RI driver's handbook, are available in both English and Spanish. There is even an online driving simulator to test out your driving skills! ZUMBA FOR ADULTS & TEENS
Classes every Monday from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.
when the library is open
No Zumba on Monday, October 9th
This is a free class led by Connie Anderson and is limited to the first 25 walk-ins. Please wear comfortable clothing and sneakers.

*Due to the fast pace of Zumba steps, children under age 13 are not allowed to participate in this evening class.

Knitting Circle Meets at 7pm on Wednesdays
when the library is open

Knitting Circle is a group of fiber artists who gather to share ideas and suggestions for new projects. This is not an instructional class. Knitting Circle members may work on a project to donate to a local organization.
Signups for 6-week Learn to Knit beginner instructional classes begins on Monday, October 2nd at the circulation desk. The Fall session meets on Wednesdays from 6-7om from October 11th through November 15th.

Meets on the second Thursday of the month when the library is open

MONTHLY BOOK CLUB GATHERING

The Harris Library Book Club for Adults meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. This month’s book selection is B.Y.O.B.T.M.M. - Bring Your Own Book That Matters Most. Please tell us about a book, or books, that you have read that matter most to you. All adults 18+ are invited to attend.

Meets on Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30am when the library is open. Meets at Patriot Diner, 65 Founders Dr, Woonsocket, RI on the last Wednesday of the month.

Live & Learn is a social program for people with early memory loss. New ways to compensate for memory changes is offered. Uncertainty surrounds the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh has said he's willing to testify at a hearing on Monday, but the woman who has accused him of sexual assault has not accepted an invitation to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Christine Blasey Ford said Kavanaugh assaulted him when they were in high school in Maryland in the 1980s.        President Trump doesn't think the FBI wants to investigate sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. In a White House photo-op today, Trump said if they FBI wanted to be involved he "would certainly do that." The Justice Department says the FBI has already done all it was going to do, because "the allegation does not involve any potential federal crime."        North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper says 16 rivers statewide are at major flood stage due to Florence, and three more will reach that stage on tomorrow or Thursday. Cooper added more than 11-hundred roadways are closed due to severe floodwater and some are still at risk of closing. Over 30 people died as a result of Florence, most in North Carolina.        A push to punish people who don't report child sexual abuse is making its way through to the Pennsylvania legislature amid the clergy abuse scandal. Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro is calling for support for a bill that would strengthen laws mandating reporting of child sexual abuse and clarify stronger penalties for failure to report. The measure is supported by lawmakers and people who say they were abused by clergy.        McDonald's workers are demanding an end to sexual harassment. An unprecedented #MeToo movement strike started at lunchtime at McDonald's restaurants in ten cities, including San Francisco, Chicago and Miami. Workers are reportedly upset with McDonald's failure to address groping, propositions for sex and other illegal behavior in restaurants nationwide.        Today is National Cheeseburger Day, and good deals are where you find them.
