Presentation on Fluorite Minerals at the Harris Library

The Woonsocket Harris Public Library, 303 Clinton Street, will offer an informational program called Fabulous Fluorites presented by Tony Cesana on Thursday, September 7th from 7pm-8pm. Tony is a 17 year member of the RI Minerals Hunters organization, a group in existence since 1965 with 200 members strong at present who are dedicated to the preservation of the environment, the discovery of new geological items and the search for knowledge. Tony learned about the physical Earth from other group members and finds fluorites to be fascinating and a great hobby, which has made him an amateur geologist and avid rock hunter. Tony has a sampling of fluorites at the Harris Library on display now through the end of September and will have many more to show at the presentation. He will also have information on how to join the RI Mineral Hunters organization. For more information, please call the library at 769-9044.

President Trump is repeating an assertion that he doesn't think the FBI wants to investigate a decades old allegation of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Speaking at the White House today, Trump said -- "That's not what they do." He again accused Democrats of withholding information about the allegation until the 11th hour of the Senate confirmation process. The veteran federal judge has strongly rejected the allegation.       FEMA Administrator Brock Long says the next 48-hours in North Carolina are going to be incredibly critical following tropical depression Florence. Rivers are still expected to crest over the next few days and it will take a while for the water to recede. One of the main priorities of FEMA right now is to repair the infrastructure so that roads can re-open for first responders and power crews to get into affected areas.        President Trump is defending his order to release some classified material in the Russia investigation. Talking at the White House today, Trump called the probe a "terrible witch hunt" that has hurt the country. He said certain things should be opened up for people to see. Trump argued that some behavior in the FBI and the Justice Department has been disgraceful.        The murder of Iowa State golfer Celia Barquin Arozamena [[ SELL-ya BAR-kwin uh-ROZ-uh-MEE-nuh ]] is being investigated. Her body was found on Monday in the water by employees at the Coldwater Golf Links course. Police say they've arrested 22-year-old Collin Richards, a homeless man, on first-degree murder charges.        A new poll shows Ted Cruz' lead over Beto O'Rourke is growing. Quinnipiac [[ kwin-IP-pee-ack ]] University Poll says the Republican Cruz leads the Democrat O'Rourke 54-45 with one percent undecided. Polls from earlier this month showed the race for Cruz' U.S. Senate seat was almost neck and neck.       Julie Chen is officially leaving The Talk. She made the announcement in a videotaped message that aired on today's episode. Chen said she needed to spend more time at home with her husband and our young son. The announcement comes after her husband Les Moonves was ousted as head of the network over sexual misconduct allegations.
